Iowa class fast Battleships

These were the ultimate development of American battleship design. Their long hulls and huge power plants also made them worthy consorts of our fast carriers, for antiaircraft defense. Iowa and New Jersey -- Admiral "Bull" Halsey's frequent flagship -- entered action first, in 1944, to be followed by Missouri and (postwar) Wisconsin. On Missouri's deck in Tokyo Bay was where the Asian-Pacific War's peace treaty was signed.
