Arkansas' inactivated sistership was Wyoming. She was rebuilt in 1925-27 with her powerplant converted to oil fuel and her old cage masts being replaced by the tripod. Her secondary armament was 6x1 5" guns and 10x1 3" dual-purpose guns, along with many 40mm and 20mm antiaircraft guns.

Arkansas served the first part of its war in the Atlantic and Mediterranean and at Normandy. It then went to the Pacific and was at Iwo Jima and Okinawa.
